The International Network & Community of Writers Society (Incwriters) was founded in 2004, created initially as Inc. in 2002-2003. Incwriters administrates the award for Outstanding Contribution to Literature (Magazines), this award is given every two years to a magazine or magazines that have in the last year shown a commitment to quality in publishing both in content and style.

Award winners received free publicity on the website, in Incwriters e-campaigns and Incwriters imprints over a twelve month period. Past winners have received increased publicity in National and Local Media.

Banipal has been selected as the winner of the 2008 award beating off stiff competition. Incwriters and Banipal will work together over the next twelve months. Banipal will receive free advertising support in Incwriters imprints, on its website, forum and sister organisation (worth up to £2,000 of support, all free).

The OCL (Magazines) Award 2008 Shortlist 10-1

Judges have applauded the excellent quality and diverse voices in the final 10. The overall style, content and design has shown that UK publications in Literature has something for every reader, poet, fiction writers and promoter. Thse magazines should be taught on every academic course in the country, as each one promotes inclusion, diversity and appeals to a wide audience. The fact that these magazines are in the top 10 means you should be subscribing to them. Judges comments are final and no correspondence will be entered into. You can discuss the final list and publishing here.

The next award will 2010. Reading will start in Spring 2009.

The OCL (Magazines) Award 2008 Shortlist 20-11

Judges have commended the rising quality of publications in the top 20. The overall style, content and design has shown that UK publications have moved with the times, are conscious of their audiences and have striven to target new and established audiences. The fact that these magazines made it into the top 20 from the long list shows that UK publishing, with support from readers, promoters, funders and private donations, is flourishing, professional and showing a cross representation of reading in the UK in 2008. The competition is now closed and the final ten titles (not listed in the 20-11 shortlist) will be announced at a special event at Manchester Central Library on the 11th March 2008. The next award will 2010.

The Incwriters OCL (Magazines) award has been running for a number of years. Past winners have included:

Transmission (2006)

Judges chose this magazine because it showed a strong commitment to short story publishing, the craft of the short story and prose writers. With a strong eye for design and content, the magazine has built up a distribution network, attracted new and established names in publishing. [ more ]

Mslexia (2006)

Judges were bowled over by this magazine, though targetted at Female Writers and Readers. Judges felt there was something here for everyone, that is pushed boundaries in content, craft and style. Mslexia has proven track record, with a strong distribution network and a proactive stance on subscriptions. [ more ]
