Thank you Nii - it's great to be part of Flipped Eye, and really interesting to hear about how it came to be. I've enjoyed the incwriters residency - participating and learning all about the other writers. Looking forward to the future!

I have missed many a writing opportunity while working or at school because I didn't have the right materials. Since handwriting notes never seems to come smoothly to me, I find myself at a loss without my trusty keyboard (even if it's a tiny one on a phone!).

TGW and I went on holiday to Gettysburg in May and only used our computer once - to find a restaurant - and otherwise we didn't use phones, e-mail, or anything at all. In this case, it was a good thing, because we both needed to escape the constant reminders of a lot of tough things going on. We will have another internet-free weekend coming up soon, and I think those are only really good for one-on-one weekends like that. They give us time to learn from each other.

I understand the need to keep up with e-mail though! I always feel like I miss out if I skip a day.

The publishing industry tells us what they glean about mass markets from focus groups and real time Nielsen data. To continue the excellent tree analogy, the publishing industry's problem is that it can't see the wood for the trees and the trees need pruning. They neglect the tiny acorns ...

Some inspiring stories of commitment and passion here. Agree with Janett, as a writer it is easy to brush over the great work done by editors. I expect to be making a number of train journeys over the coming months and I will make sure I speak to everyone I sit near, just in case they turn out to be my next publisher/editor!

Nii,great to read this. I can't wait to read the other blogs as this seems like the hidden history of poetry in the UK. Thanks for this. You are a wonderful, inspirational, devoted, dedicated and hardworking publisher and writer.
